Why I'm Here: A Short Prayer

You, O God, have revealed to me the secret, the mystery, the reason for which I'm here: To do your will. Thank you, God, for saving me from my own self(ish) will and for the doing of your will. I pray and ask, in boldness and humility, that you would allow your will to be so embedded in me that all I do lives up to the high calling of Jesus: "Not my will, but yours be done." You have shown me, too, God, that this can only come by way of allegiance to you. Allegiance is the ecosystem in which your work is worked out. So, God, I pledge my allegiance to you and to you alone. Here is my allegiance, carry your work on, in, and through me. And, as it is worked out, may it be done so only in love. Not a superficial love, but a self-sacrificial love. O God, may your secret come alive in me: Allegiance to you, who works in and through me, in love. That's why I'm here. That's your will. Amen.
