To The God Who Never Sleeps: An Extended Collect

God of Sabbaths, rests, and sleeps,
Who himself never sleeps,
Forgive me for trying to coax you to sleep in my life,
quietly slipping you sedatives and
amassing moments of cold hard silence between us;
forgive me but, even more, wake up in me
So that, rather than going to sleep on you, I might rest in you
And share the love of Christ which,
like the sun's rising has a magnetic pull
that yanks us from our beds of slumber
our beds of sin and shame and
stands us on our feet so
we can lift our heads, run real fast, and
feel your joy.
In the name of the God of Sabbaths, rests, and sleeps. Amen.
