The Invitation: A Prayer of Thanks

On a rugged post,
carved from the tree
just down the way,
a many-splendored and
many-labeled man
bore many accusations
of the elite supposed to
have had in order the affairs
of his father’s house.
With arms stretched wide,
feet stacked and pinned,
and breath refusing to help,
he died extending the invitation
for everyone else to die, too,
including each accuser.
For this, I can only say:
Thanks be to God.
