A Fool's Prayer

Lord, I love to be fooled by you. When I expect one thing, you deliver another.
Lord, I love to be coaxed by you. When I lean on my own understanding, you teach me.
Lord, I love to be surprised by you. When I'm least ready, you move.
I'm a fool, Lord, maybe the greatest of all.
Why, I've thrown pearls to swine.
I've traded forgiveness for sin.
I've squandered truth for falsehood.
I've looked for approval of men instead of you.
I've immersed myself in vanity rather than humility.
I've buried myself in sin rather than grace.
I'm a fool, Lord, maybe the greatest of all.
But...
Lord, I long to be a fool for you, a fool for Christ.
Lord, I long to be coaxed by you, a jester who follows.
Lord, I long to be surprised by you, a recipient of your unceasing grace.
So, I'll gladly be a fool, God, as long as it's for you.
Make me your fool.
